Chapter 15

McKenna

“PINK OR RED?” I HELD up my lipstick to my hair and turned to face Chloe as she sat on the side of the tub, watching me get ready.

“Pink. Red says you’re interested in sex.”

“Seriously.” I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help but smile. I was interested in sex, but that was beside the point. The minute I accepted the job with Andrew, sleeping together was out. I needed the money and no one else had come calling for my time.

So it was Redwall Enterprises for the win.

“Hey, I’ve seen this guy. Don’t tell me you’re lusting after him in a few days of working for him. He should be a model.”

“He might be.” I leaned forward and carefully applied my lipstick. “I’m still not sure why I think this is going to work. Just because he’s got a great job and some money to offer me doesn’t mean he’s not the alpha-hole that tried to screw me in a dark booth a few days ago.”

“This is true.” Her snicker had me glancing her way.

“What?”

“A few years ago, you would have let him seduce you. He’s one hundred percent your type and you know it.”

“I didn’t say he wasn’t.” I shrugged as Eddie appeared in the bathroom doorway.

“What are you two giggling about?” He smiled at me and lifted an eyebrow when he glanced over to Chloe.

“My new job.” I stepped back and smoothed my hands down my pencil skirt. “Does this look too needy?” I turned to let Eddie look at my outfit. It was professional, but I was definitely going for a power move with my look.

“Yes,” Chloe answered and laughed as I flipped her off.

“No. You look really good, but it’s more like you want the world to know you’re capable of being in charge.” He glanced around me toward Chloe. “That’s the vibe you get right, baby?”

“Yes.” She relented.

I turned and faced the mirror again. “Okay, good. That’s what I was hoping for. You don’t mind giving me a ride up there this morning? I’m only going in to tell them that I’m accepting the job.”

Chloe chimed in as Eddie nodded at me. “Why not just call them? Not that I mind you guys leaving me to lie around the house in peace and quiet for a few hours, but it seems like so much work to get all dressed up just to walk in and say that you want the job.”

“Power move,” Eddie responded and smiled as I gave him a wink and a nod.

“What he said,” I mumbled and fussed with my hair a little more. “You guys want to do lunch after I score this job?”

“Yes,” they responded in unison.

“Awesome.” I stepped back and let out a soft sigh. There was a high possibility I was making the biggest mistake of my adult life, but as I had with all of the other fuckups in the past, I’d get over it or get through it.

“I should just ride with you guys, too, if we’re going to lunch.
